Welcome !

Welcome to carolinaconjure.com, My name is Rev. Carolina Dean and this is my online Receipt-Book, which I've created to share my beliefs, practices, and experiences as a practitioner of Hoodoo and Conjure with you, my readers.

Despite what many people believe, "Carolina Dean" is not my real name but rather a name I chose for myself for my spiritual work as a Two-Headed Doctor as many conjure workers before me have done. I have made no secret that my birth name is Paul Dean Harris Jr. and that information is easily available online. I was born and raised in South Carolina and am a proud son of the Palmetto State. Hence, my working-name, Carolina Dean; rather like Minnesota Fats or Texas Pete.

I enjoy writing about metaphysical topics and have more than 10 journals which I have been writing in since about 2001, as well as my Book of Shadows (BOS) which I have maintained since the early 1990s.  In addition to writing about metaphysical topics, I also attempt to keep aware of scientific studies which relate to metaphysics in some way. I am particularly interested in bridging the gap between ancient magick and modern science. To this end I collect articles from various fields of science which relate to metaphysical topics. I am also interested in issues of history, sexuality and psychology, specifically related to the LBGT community. In addition, I meditate on a daily basis, as well as observe religious devotions.

As someone who took his first steps down the path of self-discovery before the age of the internet I know how hard it can be to find information that is of a positive, helpful, nature as one embarks on their spiritual journey. Even now with the information superhighway running right into our living rooms, it can still be difficult to find good information on the subject of Hoodoo, Spells, Southern Folk Magic, Ritual, and Divination, etc....To that end, I hope to be a source of information for seekers who find their way here.

It is not my intention to compete with commercial sites which cater to the Hoodoo community, nor do I intend to make this site a comprehensive source of information on the subject. This site will reflect Hoodoo as I know it and as I practice it.  For example, I was raised Baptist and therefore you will not find any information at this site regarding working with Saints, or praying the rosary.  I do not claim to be an authority on these subjects nor would I expect anyone to take anything that they read within these pages at face value.  I encourage each one of you to think about what you read here, do your own research and find your own truth.

If you'd like to know more about me, my history and qualifications, just click on the About Me section at the left of the screen. Feel free to leave me comments on my blog, or use the Contact Me option at the bottom left menu if you'd like to ask me questions

Also, I'd like to offer a special thank you to a few people whom I have had the privilege to learn from either through direct interaction or through their own creative efforts, without whom this website would not be possible. Among those I count among my mentors and teachers include...

  • My mother Marion whose greatest gift to me was a love of reading.
  • Angel, who encouraged me to write and teach.
  • Julie, who supported me in my creative endeavors.
  • Brenda & Jo, my adopted sisters, for their faith in me.
  • Denise Alvarado who believed in and encouraged me to go father
  • Clifford Bias who wrote the first book on magic I ever read.

And finallly, all ll those nameless, faceless individuals who paved the way for what little rights we (witches and homosexuals) have today, many of whom lost their lives in the process.; and all those who are working to ensure we obtain equal protection under the law, and/or tolerance by society. Also, all those brave enough to live their life openly without fear of discrimination, violence, or shame.
